Top 5 reasons
you need an effective compliance program:
-
Required – federal law, specifically the Affordable Care Act, requires that all providers have an effective compliance program as a condition of enrollment in Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP.
-
Makes money – an effective compliance program often uncovers previously unrecognized or uncaptured revenue.
-
Saves money – an effective compliance program will not necessarily prevent every bad thing from occurring but it should, if properly administered, prevent the biggest, most expensive, typically unexpected incidents from happening. That is especially important in today’s enforcement and whistleblower-heavy environment.
-
Expected – effective compliance programs are routinely expected, and scrutinized, by buyers, including private equity-backed companies during the due diligence process.
-
Morale – an effective compliance program demonstrates a company’s commitment to integrity. Employees want to work for companies that behave ethically, which aids recruitment and retention.
